HOMEOWNER PLANNING GUIDE
Underground Gas Lines: A Homeowner’s Guide
Prepare a buried-line project brief before excavation or a new outdoor gas installation.
Draw the proposed work area
Describe the planned appliance location and the areas affected by excavation, including paths, gardens and driveways. Gather any existing site drawings, while treating them as background information rather than proof of exact underground locations.
Plan for locate responses and private lines
Use BC 1 Call before ground disturbance and follow the responses from infrastructure owners. Its homeowner guidance explains that some private services need separate attention. Ask the excavation contractor how unidentified or privately owned lines will be addressed before work begins.
Agree on restoration and records
Specify who handles access, excavation, installation, required checks, backfilling and landscape repairs. Ask the gas contractor what records can be supplied for the completed route. Keep those records for future work, but request current locates again for later digging. This guide does not provide trench dimensions, pipe selection or gas-connection instructions.
