Gas-Line Shut-Off, Capping and Decommissioning
Arrange professional disconnection when an appliance is removed or a renovation changes the gas system.
Explain the intended end state
Tell the contractor whether an appliance is being replaced, removed permanently or moved temporarily for construction. Identify equipment that must remain in service. A temporary shutdown and permanent removal are different scopes and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Coordinate before demolition
Schedule the qualified gas contractor before anyone cuts into or removes surrounding construction. Agree which equipment and pipework are included and who handles disposal and repairs to finishes. Do not treat closing a user-operated control as confirmation that a line is safe to cut or remove.
Keep the completion record
Ask the contractor to document what was disconnected, what remains and any restrictions affecting later work. Confirm any applicable permit or assessment requirements with the responsible authority. Give the next trade the relevant completion information instead of relying on an informal statement that the gas is off.
