HOMEOWNER PLANNING GUIDE
Gas Fireplace Maintenance
Answers to common questions about arranging service and keeping useful fireplace records.
How often should service be booked?
Use the manufacturer's maintenance instructions and qualified contractor advice. Technical Safety BC recommends annual gas-appliance servicing. Ask whether age, usage or a previously identified fault changes the plan for your unit.
What information helps when booking?
Provide the make and model if available, the last service date and a description of any change in operation. Say whether this is routine maintenance or a fault investigation; those visits may have different scopes. Ask about access requirements and what is included before agreeing to an appointment.
Does cleaning prove the fireplace is safe?
A clean appearance alone does not establish safe operation. Ask the contractor to explain the checks performed and any outstanding concerns. Avoid removing glass, moving media or adjusting components unless the manufacturer explicitly identifies the action as normal user maintenance. Keep service invoices, repair records and the operating manual together.
