HOMEOWNER PLANNING GUIDE
Planning Gas-Line Capacity Safely
Give your contractor the information needed to assess a new appliance alongside existing gas loads.
List everything connected
Prepare a list of gas appliances already in the property, including equipment used only seasonally. Add the proposed appliance model and any further additions under consideration. Use manufacturer information where available rather than estimating demand from the appliance's physical size.
Ask for an assessment, not a pipe-size guess
A spare connection does not establish available capacity. Ask the gas contractor to evaluate the proposed installation and identify whether piping or utility coordination is needed. Do not use an online table to select pipe sizes or adjust a regulator.
Separate confirmed work from allowances
Ask the quote to identify what has been assessed, what remains unknown and how extra work will be approved. Clarify who contacts the utility if necessary, who handles permits and when equipment can be ordered. Keep the final equipment list with your handover records so later contractors understand what changed.
